The Warrior’s Path: To 60 and Beyond!

The Warrior’s Path: To 60 and Beyond!
A guide to leveling a warrior past 60

Let us start by getting some things out of the way.

What this guide is not:

  • A comprehensive list of warrior gear; remember, kids, www.wowhead.com and www.wow-loot.com are your friends.
  • Collections of formulas, stat comparisons, or other mathematical equations; more greater nerds than I have compiled this for you elsewhere.
  • An in-depth leveling guide; I have neither the patience nor the memory to do this.
  • The end-all be-all guide on how to play the warrior class; I’m only giving advice, it’s up to you to play the way you want. If you end up being shunned by your guild and kicked out of PUGs, that’s not my problem.

What this guide is:

  • An idea of some early quests and instance loot that will benefit you as a noob level 60.
  • A straight-forward compilation of advice from someone who is pretty sure he has a handle on playing a warrior.
  • Common sense tips on what to do as a non-protection specced tank. Yes, it can be done.

In addition, I’m going to assume a few things:

  • You haven’t yet leveled a warrior from 60-70. Duh.
  • You’re not decked out in full pre-BC raid gear.
  • You’re probably a casual player who may or may not be in a good guild.  Maybe your warrior is an alt.  And you just want an idea about how to be the best damn warrior you can be, given the circumstances.

That’s pretty much it for assumptions.

I figure that someone who has already undertaken the task of getting their warrior from 60-70 might have a handle on how to go about doing this again next time. But who knows, maybe you’ll find some helpful tips.

I also figure that someone who had the time and experience to get full BWL or Naxx loot probably knows what they’re doing; and therefore might even know more about playing a warrior than I do.

Finally, you might call yourself a casual player, maybe you don’t even have a guild.  Or, if you do have a guild, all of your guildies are too busy playing with their level 70 friends to run your noobish ass through Hellfire Ramparts. That’s what I’m here for.  You’re probably not just interested in getting to 70 as fast as humanly possible.  That’s ok too. You may even want to “stop and smell the roses” and have some fun along the way. For that, I applaud you.

Ok, now that all the required disclaimers are out of the way, lets move on to the good stuff.

One note before we begin.  The first part offers more general advice about what to do when you first pass through the Dark Portal, as well as some specific warrior advice.  It’s still good to know.

Part 1:  Stepping into Outland
Or, “Oooh look at all the pretty gear and there’s so much gold he–OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT HUGE ASS ROBOT?  GET AWAY FROM ME!”

Part 2:  Talents
Or, “ZOMG!  I’m protection specced, I can’t friggin’ kill anything, what do I do!?

Part 3:  Tanking for Dummies
Or, “Don’t worry I can tank, see this huge axe?  I’m gonna hack the shit out of this guy, you watch.  Ouch!  Oh my God!  Heal me!  Oh stop that hurts!  Oh look I’ve wiped the group.”

More sections will come when I have more time and inspiration.

  1. Heya, thanks for the blog and guide. I just took over my friend’s level 60 warrior, and after playing a warlock all my life, I have some catching up to do on what the tanks have been doing all this time!

  2. Glad I can help, Poque!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll answer to the best of my ability. Likewise with suggestions, I’m always open to new ideas.

Get out there and embrace your plate-wearing, axe-weilding, clothie-saving warrior self!
